The Dutch Mill was an interactive public art piece that represented the people, culture and art of the Netherlands at Burning Man, as part of the Circle of Regional Effigies [CORE]. The project seeked to create one of the most familiar symbols of the Netherlands by erecting a large windmill on the Playa.
The windmill was interactive in such a way, that participants could power the blades of the mill, by riding a stationary bicycle in the inside of the structure.
The project was designed and built through a collaboration of Dutch local Burners and Artists with the actual construction done in the US. The installation was covered in brilliant murals by artist Daniella Rubinovitz and illuminated by vibrant lights at night. The Dutch Mill was burned on August 29, 2013.
