Actress Truus de Boer approached us for the creation of a promotional video for her solo theatre performance, Versteend Verlangen [Petrified Desire], based on the tragic life and letters of French sculptress Camille Claudel, known for being the mistress of Auguste Rodin.

It quickly became apparent that we could help her further develop this solo, and do more than just create a single promotional teaser. We did this by diving into Camille’s inner world, her psyche, her tragic life that included decades of being committed in a mental institution, and especially all these letters that she wrote to different people.

I helped the process between Truus and director Stef Prein, guiding and nurturing the development and dramatic structure of the series and the individual videos. We decided to shoot the videos in an abstract three-dimensional space, conceptually somewhere in between a theatre bare stage, and the set designs for films like Dogville and Manderley.

The series has helped Truus further develop her ideas about the solo performance, and she has submitted a compilation of these videos to different film festivals.
