Promotional video for the introduction of Canvas, the new learning environment of the VU Amsterdam.

At the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, I worked as a Video Director, where my role was to bridge the gap between academic expertise and effective digital communication. I collaborated closely with faculty members and academic staff to translate complex research and lecture materials into engaging, accessible video content. My focus was on optimizing the instructional design of these materials to ensure they met specific pedagogical goals, particularly for flipped-classroom environments and blended-learning initiatives.

While I was not directly responsible for the initial choice of academic topics, I was instrumental in how that content was structured and delivered. This involved a strong collaboration with the video production team to maintain high technical standards while ensuring that the visual narrative supported the intended learning outcomes. I acted as a consultant for faculty, helping them adapt their teaching styles for the camera and advising on how to use media production tools to enhance the clarity and impact of their educational messages.

In addition to academic content, I directed promotional videos that highlighted the university’s strengths and institutional milestones. These projects required a nuanced understanding of how to communicate the value of higher education to a broad audience. Throughout my tenure, I focused on improving the overall accessibility of the video materials, ensuring they were not only technically proficient but also pedagogically sound. By integrating professional media-production workflows with advanced instructional design principles, I helped create a digital library that supported the university’s transition toward more flexible and interactive forms of education.
